Meet Dr. Ashley Emerson
BOARD CERTIFIED DERMATOLOGIST
Dr. Ashley Emerson is an accomplished, board-certified dermatologist that blends passion, expertise, and exceptional patient care. Raised in Pascagoula, her journey in medicine began at the University of Mississippi, where she graduated with a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Psychology, with an emphasis on investigational psychopharmacology. Her commitment to medicine led her to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, where she completed her intern year prior to her dermatology training at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. It was here that she was named Chief Resident her senior year and was awarded board certification in 2017.

Dr. Emerson’s professional contributions go beyond her clinical practice. After returning to UMMC to join the Department of Dermatology as an Assistant Professor, she participated in resident education and served as attending physician for the Resident Continuity Clinic, Surgery, and Cosmetic Clinics, where she was awarded the Excellence in Residency Award in 2018. It was also here that her exceptional skills and leadership made her the lead dermatologist for the Multidisciplinary Melanoma Clinic.

Dr. Emerson later established Mississippi’s only Pediatric Dermatology clinic, demonstrating her commitment to serving patients of all ages. For this, she was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, becoming the only dermatologist in the state to receive this distinction. In 2019, she collaborated with the Department of Rheumatology to establish Mississippi’s first Rheumatology-Dermatology Multidisciplinary Clinic, showcasing her dedication to a holistic approach to care.
In addition to her important work at UMMC, Dr. Emerson authored a chapter in the 4th Edition of Dr. Stephen Wolverton’s textbook, Comprehensive Dermatologic Drug Therapy.

Dr. Emerson’s passion extends to all aspects of clinical practice, including both surgical and cosmetic dermatology. Her experience in complex dermatological conditions in both adults and children, particularly in the setting of systemic disease, truly sets her apart from her colleagues.

Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Emerson enjoys an active lifestyle. She enjoys playing tennis and cherishes moments spent with her husband, two children, and their beloved dogs, Sadie and Tuck.
